PikkoBot Vertex 4 — Custom-Built Desktop Pick-and-Place Machine
The PikkoBot Vertex 4 is a fully custom-built desktop pick-and-place machine — assembled, wired, and calibrated to order, not a DIY kit. Runs OpenPnP out of the box with a pre-tuned configuration for JUKI nozzles and standard SMD placement.
Hardware built on the open-source LumenPnP platform, originally designed by Opulo Inc. and licensed under CERN-OHL-W.
Specifications
| Placement range | 0402 and up (see our component size guide) |
| Theoretical throughput | Up to 2,000–3,000 placements/hour, board-dependent |
| Work area | 500 × 400 mm |
| Camera | Top + bottom vision |
| Nozzles | Dual head, JUKI-compatible |
| Controller | Vertex 4 mainboard, Marlin firmware |
| Software | OpenPnP (open-source) |
| Feeders included | One set of manual tape feeders (Photon auto-feeders available separately) |
For hand placement, a skilled operator runs somewhere around 200–600 placements/hour depending on board complexity. At 2,000–3,000 placements/hour theoretical, this machine turns a full day of manual assembly into an afternoon.
🔥 Limited-time: free global shutter camera upgrade
Every unit ordered this month ships with a free upgrade to a global shutter high-speed camera — no rolling-shutter blur during fast moves, more consistent fiducial and component detection at higher speeds.
Optional: quiet external air pump
Upgrade to a low-noise external air pump for shared workspace or home-lab use. Add at checkout.

Who this is for
Hardware startups running prototype and low-volume production (under ~500 boards/month), R&D labs, and makers who want OpenPnP flexibility without building the machine themselves. If you're deciding between a desktop machine and a used industrial line, see our honest comparison first.
